When I opened the door to the balcony this morning, I was greeted by a wall of humidity. At 89%, it was the level of humidity I’ve not felt in SO long. Probably all summer. It was beautiful. My camera however didn’t share my enthusiasm. My initial photo attempts didn’t go particularly well as moisture completely covered the screen and lens.

In addition to the high humidity, I was also greeted by a favourable Warm Showers response. I’m planning on staying in Miami for a couple of more days but sadly, my visit with Robin was a short one as she is about to embark on a 4-week mountain climbing expedition to Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina. How cool is that? I’m definitely looking forward to hearing all about it.

With my accommodation confirmed for the next two nights, I said my goodbyes to Robin and was on the move again. I had no real plan for the day other than to just cycle around Miami Beach. Well, that’s not entirely true. Being a fan of the TV show Dexter, I decided I would cycle my way north along the beach to find where they shot the exteriors for his apartment. Yeah, I know. Very touristy. But I am a tourist after all.

I found the building easily enough but getting a shot of Dexter’s actual unit wasn’t going to be easy. There’s no public access to the building – and trees, shrubs, fences, and other buildings have combined nicely to block any views whatsoever. However, a neighbouring parking lot allowed me to get a glimpse of what the views from Dexter’s apartment would be. And those views made me think that maybe I could get a view of the apartment from the other side of the water. Sure, it would be far away. Sure, it would likely be a terrible photo. Sure, it was kind of a silly thing to do. Then again, it’s not like I had anything else planned.

Yes, I'd kill to live in that 2nd floor, end unit. But only bad people.

But only bad people.

I crossed the bridge and sought out an area where I could access the waterfront. Those attempts were entirely unsuccessful as the area in question was a gated community (Bal Harbour Club) with a security check point. I would have to keep moving. I got back on the A1A (aka. Collins Ave.) and crossed over another bridge which led to a park. I made my way down to the water and, as suspected, I could see the apartment. Barely. I took a few (bad) photos anyway and deemed my mission a moderate success.

The rest of my day was spent just cycling along the coast and enjoying the heat. Did I mention it was 30C/86F? And humid? Yes, it was a beautiful day. Miami Beach definitely agrees with me. However, tomorrow I’ll likely have to start thinking about that dreaded question, “What next?”. But that’s a question for another day. For now, I’ll just live in the moment.
