My Shoes Are Wet Again

Harrington Harbour, QC to La Tabatière

This is another update from July 31st.

Fresh (and ripe) Bakeapples.

Fresh (and ripe) Bakeapples.

Not too much to report on the most recent stops on the journey to Blanc-Sablon. Good photos were hard to come by in both Tête-À-La-Baliene and La Tabatière. There were short trails available at each location and I even sampled some wild bakeapple berries along the way in Tête-À-La-Baliene (hopefully, they weren’t poisonous).

Technically I don’t think I was actually in the village of Tête-À-La-Baleine. Due to the close proximity of islands in the area I’m assuming the Bella Desgagnés can’t actually reach the village. As such, the village is 11km away. I opted just to walk around the island.

DSC04353_JohnnysHillThe trail in La Tabatière was a short walk from the wharf and it was only a 400m trail after that. Apparently there are good views from the top of the trail which I somewhat witnessed; however, rain and fog significantly dampened that view. Although, we were at least slightly lucky with the weather in that it was pouring while the boat was coming into the wharf but the rain stopped shortly after the passenger ramp was attached. The rain was gone but the flies were more than happy to welcome the fresh supply of meat walking off of the boat.

Anyway, it was nice to get off the boat again as there isn’t all that much to do when there’s no internet to waste the hours away. The downside is my shoes are once again soaked. Actually, I don’t think I mentioned how soaked they were when I arrived in Natashquan – although, I guess it was implied. Anyway, I didn’t think they’d ever dry out again but the unexpected sun changed that in a hurry. Hopefully we’ll get some more unexpected sun upon arrival in Blanc-Sablon.

Only one more stop before we arrive at Blanc-Sablon, at which point I’ll have to figure out what I’m actually going to do. I was planning on researching such things on the boat but the lack of WiFi has greatly altered that plan.
