Exploring St. John’s – Day Two

DSC05204_CapeSpearAfter yesterday’s successful exploration of Signal Hill, downtown, and a “wow-sized” poutine, there was still much more to see. So, I met up with Janis again and we headed to Cape Spear – this time I left the bike behind and we went in her truck. Actually, I didn’t really leave the bike behind but instead I left it at a local bike shop for a bit of a tune-up.

After more than 3,600 km there were some definite adjustments the bike needed before any future riding should be done. Brakes, gears, headset, wheels – and those are just the things I’m aware of. Hopefully they won’t find much more that needs work. Now, one might ask, “Why are you repairing your bike now that the trip is over?” Well, the truth is I’m not sure the trip is really over. Maybe I’m just in denial. Or confused. Or maybe I’m still having a midlife crisis. Whatever it is, I’m not entirely sure I’m ready to pack up the bike quite yet. That’s all I can say for now as I’m still working on what my options are. I hope to have more answers when I find out about the status of my bike.

For now, we’ll focus on today. And today started with a trip to Cape Spear and the most easterly point in North America. Even without the sun, it’s a beautiful sight with steep cliffs, a lighthouse and a variety of scenic trails. It also included an unexpected reunion with Allan who arrived in St. John’s yesterday and just happened to be finishing his journey to the east coast today. Once again, I’ll let an image gallery sum up the rest of this portion of the day.
