Welcome to Kenya (August 7)
The super short version would be something like this: Gage and I arrived at the airport, checked in, boarded the plane, landed in Nairobi, and were then shuttled to our hotel.
The aforementioned super short version is entirely accurate but omits the part where we sat at the gate for an hour as KLM tried to fix the toilets on our plane. When that failed, we sat around for another three hours as they prepared a new plane for the flight. As such, our originally scheduled landing time in Nairobi of 10:00 PM ended up being 2:00 AM (which included a one hour time change). Once we arrived in Kenya we needed to get visas which, all things considered, was a ridiculously simple procedure. But it still took time as there were others that needed visas as well.
In the end, we finally arrived at the Fairview Hotel in Nairobi shortly before 3:00 AM. For the record, the Fairview Hotel in Nairobi is VERY nice. And the staff was very friendly considering our late arrival.
Oh, and speaking of our late arrival, Gage had arranged for someone to pick us up at the airport and drive us to the hotel. It turns out our driver wasn’t aware of our flight delays and he ended up waiting at the airport for four hours until we arrived. Surprisingly, he was in very good spirits when we finally arrived.I’m not entirely sure what the plan is for tomorrow (or the next two weeks for that matter) but I’m sure there will be some clarity tomorrow. Until then, well … I’ll just have to wait and see. That said, I don’t expect much in the way of WiFi so these updates will continue to be a bit scarce. That seems to be the trend during this year’s tour anyway.
Okay… that picture… explain. Just having some Photoshop fun during your delay?
