Waiting On The Weather

Nice night after a windy day.

Nice night after a windy day.

As suspected, there have been neither enough activity nor adventures to warrant daily updates but since it’s been a few days since my last update I figured I’d better write something lest people start to wonder if I’m still alive. Spoiler Alert: I am.

Today is day number two of un-flyable weather and as such I find myself with more than a little time on my hands. I’d LIKE to fill the screen with epic tales of great soaring flights but as yet that hasn’t been the case. That said, I have managed to take three flights thus far. Two of them pretty short (on Sunday). The last one (on Monday) was a little bit less short as I managed to find a wee bit of thermal activity to keep me aloft for a few extra minutes. I’ll take what I can get.

Tuesday was expected to be flyable but the day began with a very heavy fog covering the field. On the upside, the fog eventually burned off by about 10:30. The downside was the wind was much too strong to allow for any sort of gliding. Enjoyable gliding anyway.

So, the activity has been pretty limited. I’ve been able to do a bit of freelance work but not much. I can report that I finally got around to addressing the issue of the slow leak in my air mattress. Sadly, that didn’t go as well as I had hoped. After repeatedly submerging the mattress in the lake it became clear that the issue wasn’t so much one small leak but a bevy of TINY leaks. It would seem the wear and tear of so many nights on the road have worn out the bottom of the mattress resulting in air slowly seeping out from many areas. Patching it is not an option. Perhaps spraying some sort of sealant over the entire thing would help but I don’t have any such magical sealant. Plus, I’m guessing that would only be a short term solution anyway.

Yesterday’s only other mildly notable activity saw a group of us drive to Clermont for a movie. We saw The Big Short which was much more enjoyable than sitting in the clubhouse watching (and listening to) the wind. Hmmmm … that’s not much of an endorsement. The movie was, in fact, very good.

A foggy (and grainy) morning

A foggy (and grainy) morning

Today has been another lazy one with the weather maintaining the status quo – minus the fog. High winds have dominated the day and thunderstorms are on the way. Actually, as I type this the skies have opened and TORRENTIAL rains have begun. I hope my tent is up to the challenge.

Tomorrow is looking like clear skies but the high winds are apparently happy to overstay their welcome. It’s looking like it will be another day on the ground tomorrow.

Oh, one side note: I did get a grocery run in the other day and I know I REALLY shouldn’t go grocery shopping when I’m hungry. But I did. That said, I managed to make a box of Mini Wheats last two days. That’s about 1.5 days longer than usual!
