Dull Day In Deming, NM

Deming, NM

After 12 consecutive travel days – some of which were significantly shorter than others – today was a rest day. Actually, there wasn’t much rest involved. In fact, I feel I’m still holding up pretty well and could’ve happily made today another travel day. But I didn’t. Instead, today was a work day. And between blog updates and freelance work, it was a pretty full day.

Despite it being a full day, it was a pretty empty day from the perspective of blogability (yes, I know that’s not a word – although it might be in another five years or so). I’d say the better part of the day was spent in my motel room working on my laptop but in reality it was pretty much the entire day. Not exactly a riveting day but it was very productive.

This probably would've been a good place to work.

Now, a smarter person, or perhaps just a person who likes the water, would’ve gone for a swim at some point. Or at least hung out at the pool. Did I mention the Grand Motor Inn has a pool? Well, it does. But, despite taking a photo of the pool, the idea of actually sitting at said pool didn’t occur to me until after dark. I mean, the likelihood of me going for a swim was mind-numbingly low but the pool probably would’ve made for a nice setting for a home office.

Another thing I didn’t think of was that I could’ve used the pool to try to find the hole in my air mattress. The hole is certainly getting bigger and I’ll have to address the issue eventually. But “eventually” was clearly not today. Perhaps it should’ve been.

Today’s only real departure from my motel room into the real world came late in the day – actually it was early evening – when I wandered over to Subway. I would’ve taken my bike but I thought it deserved a full day off. Anyway, as you might imagine there weren’t any adventures to be had during the 700 metre walk from the motel to Subway – unless you consider stopping in at Dollar General to be an adventure. I guess by today’s standards, it was.

Tomorrow I’ll be back on the bike as I head to Las Cruces. Whether there will be any excitement along the way or not remains to be seen.
