All Play And No Work Makes Mark a Poor Boy

Gull Lake, SK

Home office for the day.

Home office for the day.

To compensate for what were a few rather lengthy, albeit belated, updates this will be a significantly shorter update. Not to ease you of the burden of reading a long update but merely because there’s not a lot to report from the day. It was a productive day. But not from a cycle touring perspective.

By the time I dragged myself out of my tent this morning, Moritz had packed up and was well on his way to the Alberta Border and more specifically Medicine Hat. I say “well on his way” because I heard from him later in the day and he had a glorious tailwind all day. Yup. The day I decide not to ride is the day the Wind Gods send a tailwind to westbound cyclists. Sigh. If it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all.

Home for the day.

Home for the day.

While westbound cyclists were enjoying a glorious tailwind today, I worked. Some freelance related. Some blog related. As you may have noticed, the updates have been a little slow in appearing lately. Have I mentioned the lack of free WiFi lately? I actually managed to find an open network at an intersection here in Gull Lake but it wasn’t really a place to set up shop for longer than a few minutes. So, this update will end up being a little late too. Sigh.

Of course, the other reason for the delayed updates has been the increased level of social activity on this year’s trip compared to last year’s adventure. Between Warm Showers hosts, kind strangers, other cyclists, and other such things there hasn’t been much time for writing. Yes, I know. It’s a good problem to have.

Tomorrow I plan to hit the road again and, based on the weather forecast, I appear to be in for a day of strong headwinds. But a lot can change overnight. I guess I’ll find out in the morning.
