Retirement Living 101
Today I experienced my first full day of retirement living. I’d say it was a complete success. When I crawled out of bed this morning, the sun was shining in a beautiful blue sky and, while I don’t know exactly what the temperature was, it was very comfortable. Breakfast was in the screened in porch area where I enjoyed cereal, french toast, bacon, and orange juice – I am in Florida after all.
After breakfast, my aunt and uncle led me on a tour of the golf community they call home during the winter. We opted to take our bikes rather than the golf cart. Yes, this was probably the toughest decision of the day. Retirement is good. Although, next time I’ll take my camera with me.To say that I’m not a golfer would be a gross understatement, however, I can certainly see the appeal of retiring here. Everything you want, all in one place. There’s even a Canadian pool and an American pool – the latter is heated.
After touring the grounds and the clubhouse area, we returned to the house for lunch – again, in the screened in porch area. Lunch was great and was followed by a rather lengthy political discussion with my uncle. The good news is we successfully solved the world’s problems. The bad news is that none of the people causing today’s problems were listening. Oh well. At least we have the answers if anyone comes asking. Did I mention retirement is good?
For dinner we returned to a very busy clubhouse for pizza, wings, and beer. It would seem the retirement diet agrees with me completely. It was interesting to watch all the other retirees interacting. Many are snowbirds who have recently returned to the south and it was fun to watch the various reunions of people who haven’t seen each other since last Spring. Yes, the snowbirds are definitely onto something good. Something very, very good. There was really one minor problem with my first full day of retirement. I’m not actually retired. I’m going to have to do something about that.
