Rainy Days

Self-explanatory ... and yet I still feel the need to add a caption.

Self-explanatory … and yet I still feel the need to add a caption.

Today was definitely the most uneventful day so far. The storm clouds that rolled in last night actually passed through without incident and this morning was even a bit sunny – although chilly. 15 degrees. What is it with me going to cold places when it gets hot back home?

I was considering moving on to Les Bergeronnes today to stay at Mer et Monde (as recommended by Guillaume in Montreal). I looked at the site online and it looked fantastic – unfortunately, one of the downsides to spontaneous activities (or in this case, accommodations) is that there might not be any availability. There wasn’t. Although they do have one spot open next week!

With that plan foiled I decided I would walk into town and check things out – it’s a small town so that didn’t take long! I wandered down to the harbour and the water levels were REALLY low. Apparently that changes around 4:00pm today. Anyway, I watched a few boats come and go and then I had probably the most interesting (and challenging) conversation of the trip.

Low tide.

Low tide.

Many of the people I’ve encountered in Quebec have either spoken a decent amount of English – or none. When it’s the latter, we’d exchange smiles and move on. Well, the guy I was talking to today definitely had the most limited English I’ve conversed with – and yet still better than my French. But it was really interesting as we tried to figure out what each other was trying to say. He was the one that informed me about the tide and times. I found out what he does for a living. Where he’s from. And that he did a whale tour yesterday and saw five Belugas and four baby Belugas. I told him where I’m from and a bit about my trip. Not the most in-depth conversation I’ve ever had but it was certainly an interesting experience.

It's only a matter of time before I buy some sort of vehicle.

I eventually moved on and walked along the shore for a bit. Then the darker clouds moved in so I decided to head back to the campground – but not before I found another vehicle to buy. The rain held off until I got to the restaurant next to the campsite and since I hadn’t really eaten today (old habits die hard) I went in – just as it started to pour! Since then I’ve pretty much been hiding out in my tent or the common area (charging up my electronics before tomorrow’s ride).

Anyway, as I said – not the most exciting day but not a bad day either.
