Day V
Let me start by saying that 74 degrees isn’t as warm as you might think. Then again, maybe it is. But is definitely isn’t as warm as I would think. As you may have guessed today topped out at around 74 degrees but with a strong wind blowing for most of the day there was a definite chill in the air. Don’t get me wrong, I still wore shorts but I wasn’t particularly happy about it.
Anyway, enough of that. Despite the cooler temperatures, the sun managed to force its way through the clouds from time to time – enough to scare away the rain from yesterday. So, with the roads dry I headed over to the Daytona International Speedway to take the tour that I didn’t get to take yesterday. For what it’s worth I know pretty much nothing about racing but what I do know is that it would probably be pretty cool to drive around that track a few times. The corners are at a ridiculous 31 degree angle so you need to be doing about 120 mph to successful get around them. I attempted to sneak onto the track with my car but as you might imagine that probably wasn’t one of my better ideas (the guards with guns would confirm that thesis). So, after being banished from the track I had to settle for pictures from the parking lot. Seriously though, did they really think my car was going to hurt their track? Sigh. So much for southern hospitality!
Barring any unforeseen adventures, this likely ends the Daytona Beach portion of the Road Trip. Tomorrow I’m heading down the road about 145 km (90 miles) for the next phase of the trip.
