Day Six (Taupo to Taihape)

Today’s ride was infinitely more enjoyable than I had anticipated. I thought I was in for a longer version of The Road to Rotorua day, but that was not the case. After getting a 40km kick-start thanks to some vehicular assistance from Brad, I was off to take on the Desert Road. This included going by “Mt. Doom” which was absolutely beautiful.
I faced my first rain today – although nothing significant. I also faced my first headwind – significantly more significant :( When the ride was over, another 110km was in the books. My plans continue to change on a daily basis. I’m now trying to get to Wellington by Friday afternoon (instead of Saturday) for reasons I’ll get into if I actually get there Friday. Of course, there’s no internet access at this campsite so I’m not sure when I’ll be able to post this update.
