Day Fourteen

Okay, so I came up with a plan. The benefit of making last minute plans is that it’s harder for them to go awry (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it). So, today’s plan was to check out the seal colony about 10km from my campsite, then go to Punakaiki to checkout the “Pancake Rocks and Blowholes”, then continue south (along a highly recommended coastal drive) to Greymouth and, if time permits, Hokitika.

Well, apparently last minute plans don’t always work out either. The 10 minute walk to the seal colony turned into a three hour hike through, yes, beautiful scenery. I should’ve known! What can I say? No one has ever accused me of being very bright. As for the “Pancake Rocks”, well, it seems the best time to see them is at high tide which was around 9:00 this morning and 9:30 tonight. Of course it will be dark by high tide tonight so I decided to stay in Punakaiki for the night.

To fill the afternoon I did a couple of short hikes which turned into a couple of longer hikes with a “few” photos taken along the way. Have I mentioned that New Zealand is beautiful?

Looking forward to tomorrow’s non-existent plan not happening.
