Day Eleven

Well my day in Kaikoura was a success. I spent the morning walking the Peninsula Walkway and encountered a few seals along the way – I didn’t have a club so I just kept walking ;) Then it was over to the South Bay Marina for an afternoon of fishing. No big fish were caught but I did catch about a dozen that were big enough to keep. There were a couple albatross keeping their eyes on us just a few metres from the boat. They were just looking for an easy meal – which they got. A shark also made an appearance and swam right up against the boat.

After fishing I decided to try to resume part of my original plan and started back towards the west coast. At the moment I’m at the Pelorus Bridge campsite which is really nice so now I’m thinking of spending tomorrow here instead of heading to Nelson at the crack of dawn.

(oh, and I apologize for any typos – I’m typing like a madman to get as much in before my time runs out!)

I’ve got two more updates to post but that will have to wait for another day. 20 minutes goes by SO fast :(
