Why Don’t I Feel Ready?

I can’t help but think that I’ve been more prepared in years gone by for the trip on which I was embarking. Perhaps the “short” nature of this ride is affecting my preparational (yeah, not a word) mindset. Hopefully that doesn’t come back to haunt me. That said, I still don’t really know what route I’m taking. Nor where I will be staying on my first night. Did I mention my first night will be Monday?

My wheels. All six, actually. As usual, only two will be coming on this journey.

I’ve sent out a couple of WarmShowers.org requests but as yet there haven’t been any responses. I guess if all else fails there’s always the hotel option. Unless anybody knows someone in the Niagara Falls area with a spare bed or yard space for my tent. Yes, pending a favourable reply from a WarmShowers.org host, I’m hoping to get to Niagara Falls on Day One. Perhaps a BIT ambitious for Day One but we’ll see what happens.

I’m also still deciding on some gear for my bike. In the past I’ve always used a “low rider” rack for my front panniers. However, when my bike was damaged on its return from France last year, the front rack was replaced with a “standard” rack which puts the front panniers a bit higher and a bit more forward. I’m not sure how that will affect the stability – the low rider has always performed more than admirably. I DO have a low rider that I could put on the bike, but I’m a bit curious as to how the new rack will perform. I have one day to make that decision.

Anyway, I’m getting close to ready. I think. More to come as things develop.
