Gearing up (and down and up and …)

It’s hard to believe it’s been another two months since my last update. How sad. I really need to find something to write about! Well, I may have done just that.

After my first foray into European cycling last summer, I’m somewhat limited to North America this summer. Not that North America is “limiting” … it’s clearly crazy spacious – with a LOT to see. Seriously. A LOT. The main reason for staying in North America is because, well … timing. Plus, there’s still a lot of the aforementioned “LOT to see” that I’ve yet to see. That said, I’m not sure how much I’ll be seeing this summer … at least in the next few weeks.

The primary factor affecting my options for a long distance tour right now is that I’ll be heading back to Africa (with my friend Gage and her family) for four weeks. And since Gage lives in Philadelphia, that’s where the Africa adventure will begin. And it will begin on June 24th. As a result, time is not on my side in terms of roaming too far. On the upside, it does leave enough time to take a leisurely ride to Philly. Yes, I realize not everyone has the same definition of “leisurely”.

I won’t lie. I’m certainly NOT in touring shape. At all. Fortunately, the ride to Philadelphia starts off somewhat flat. Unfortunately, I likely still won’t be in touring shape by the time I reach the hills. I have only myself to blame. I better make sure my gears are working properly. I’ll need all of them!

The cycling journey begins, well … the exact date is still a bit vague but, out of necessity, it’s approaching. Rapidly.

More to come.
