Together Again, Finally

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a month since I was cycling in the soothing warmth and sunshine of Miami. Equally hard to believe is that it’s also been nearly a month since I’ve done any cycling at all. Since my return, I’ve relied on public transit, a rental car, and my feet to get me where I needed to be. Somehow, my bicycle was left out of the mix. It was time to change that.

Ready to roll again.

Ready to roll again.

Even though I had reassembled my bike previously, there were still a few adjustments I needed to make to ensure it was road worthy. Fortunately, the adjustments were minor and went without incident. Not long after, and for the first time in nearly a month, my bicycle and I were together again to take on whatever the roads had in store for us. And I have to say, it was fantastic. Glorious, even. Sure, it was cold. Sure, it was rainy. Sure, there was a lot of traffic. Sure, I think the roads of Toronto are still the worst on which I’ve travelled (after 9,000 km, I feel I have enough experience to formulate an opinion on the matter). Despite all that, I was actually a bit surprised to discover how much I was enjoying the ride. I felt like I was free again. And it really made me long to be on the open road again. Soon. Very soon.

Of course, for that I need a plan. Something I’m currently lacking. Lots of ideas. But as yet no plan. But today’s ride has me seriously considering speeding up my timeline. Although, for now I should probably focus on where I’ll be living once my house-sitting gig is over. Anyone looking for a house-sitter for January? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?? Oh well, I’ll figure something out. I hope.

Today’s totals:
Distance traveled: 22.02 km
Time on bike: 1:00:33
Maximum speed: 59.66 km/h
Average speed: 21.82 km/h

I know, I know. Those totals are hardly awe-inspiring but it’s better than nothing!

I actually considered cycling to your mom’s. But no, it looks like that won’t be happening. Although, if I left now I could probably be there by 3:00. Maybe next year.
