Birthday Road Trip Success!

Another year. Another successful birthday road trip. As hard as it might be to believe, this trip managed to surpass that of last year’s brief excursion through northern-ish Ontario.

Behind Home Plate

Behind home plate in Cincinnati.

The weather for the drive to and from Cincinnati wasn’t ideal for top-down driving but it was an enjoyable drive nonetheless. However, Sunday was absolutely beautiful for both dropping the top and for watching a ball game. Throw in a “Star Wars” themed weekend at Great American Ball Park (May the 4th be with you) and it was a great weekend. Although, based on the lineups, I think Darth Vader was more popular than any player on the Reds (or Brewers for that matter!). I’m sure he finds their lack of faith disturbing.

On a side note, upon arriving in Cincinnati on Saturday (the hotel was actually across the Ohio River in Kentucky), there was the realization that this weekend was Kentucky Derby weekend. I can’t believe I didn’t realize this sooner. Churchill Downs was a mere 1.5 hours away. Post time was a mere 2.5 hours away. Between a quick internet search for tickets and seeing the aerial coverage on TV, it was clear that even if I got to Louisville in 1.5 hours the likelihood of getting anywhere near the track by post time was slim to none. So close, and yet so far! I still managed to place a wager on the race – which was more than a little unsuccessful. I think I’m still waiting for my horse to cross the finish line! sigh. If it wasn’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all!

So, I guess this brings an official close to my 3rd Annual Birthday Road Trip. The tradition continues!
